10 Free, Easy Ways to Drive More Traffic to Your Blog
drive more traffic to your blog

Is your blog getting no love? It’s pretty disheartening when you’re putting out great content and only your mom and best friend are reading your stuff.

Let’s turn that situation around pronto. Here are 10 free ways to drive more traffic to your blog:

1. Share snippets on social media

If there are some particularly juicy pieces of information in your blog post – maybe a surprising statistic or an insider secret that few know – share it on social media. That teaser might be enough to drive interest to your blog post.

2. Tweet it more than once

Always tweet your blog posts more than once in order to reach a maximum number of eyeballs. You could follow a 10-tweet-per-blog-post schedule. The first one goes out upon publication and the 10th one goes out around 30 days later.

3. Add a link to your email signature

Each time you publish a blog post, add a link to it in your email signature. If you publish once a week, this is totally doable. Just set a reminder on your calendar to update your email signature. After a while, it’ll become automatic.

4. Include it in your social bios

You can actually approach this in two ways: Link directly to your latest blog post, or link to your blog page in general (and let people know what they can expect to find there). It might take some experimenting to see which tactic works best.

5. Craft attention-grabbing headlines

Like this one: How the Chinese Jesus Blew Us Away. I have never clicked on a link so fast! Who is the Chinese Jesus? What did he do that was so amazing? An attention-grabbing headline like this makes you stop what you’re doing to learn more asap.

(Full disclosure – Her Corner is a client, but I did not write that blog headline for them!).

6. Mention an influencer

Try mentioning someone famous (in your industry or just in general) in a blog post. This could benefit you in two ways: 1 – that person’s name is probably searched a fair amount, and 2 – when you tweet it out, you can tag that person in your tweet.

7. Write about a trending topic

When you see a trending topic that is either related to your industry, will affect your target market, and/or is a topic that you’re an expert in, write about it. Again, it’s being searched a lot, which will give your blog post a nice little boost.

8. Post on a social bookmarking site

There are a bunch to choose from: Delicious, Newsana, Newsvine, Paper.li, Scoop.it, and Technorati – and more. You might need to do a little experimenting to see which site sends you the most traffic.

9. Optimize the post for search

Make sure you include your main keyword in the headline, at the beginning of the blog post, the title tag, and the meta description. The more carefully you optimize, the better your chances for good search results.

10. Insert images and videos

It is a fact that images and videos in blog posts generate more interest and engagement, so, you know, use them in your posts! Don’t forget to add appropriate tags and titles to them for search purposes.

OK, that’s my list. What would you add to it?
