Although you may think you shouldn’t offer consumers too many options when it comes to selling a product or service, it seems the opposite. Offer too few options and, according to a study by the Journal of Consumer Research, consumers will be more likely to search for alternatives. In the report, researchers found giving consumers only one option increased their desire to search for more options and as a result, they might reject a product they would otherwise purchase. In most cases, employees would jump at the chance to work from home, but could that benefit ultimately breed bad blood in your business? According to a survey from Kona, 70 percent of workers say they would rather telecommute than work in the office, and if you survey those between the ages of 35 and 44, the numbers are even higher (81 percent). However, in offices that allow employees to work away from the office, the survey found 57 percent of respondents said that allowing remote work spurred jealousy among those who didn’t enjoy the privilege; for workers over the age of 65, the numbers jump to 65 percent. You may be getting better about promoting your business on social media, but you can’t forget to keep up on your email marketing campaigns, either. In fact, according to a survey from Millward Brown Digital, consumers overwhelmingly prefer to learn about promotions via email compared to social media. In the survey 40.6 percent of respondents preferred email, while just 27.6 percent of respondents preferred email, while just 27.3 percent preferred  social social networking sites. Read more…

Almost three out of five U.S. online buyers surveyed by Adroit Digital and research company Toluna say they have noticed ads popping up online for products they have looked up on other sites. This bodes well for online retailers using retargeted ads to remind shoppers of recent shopping searches. Although consumers don’t necessarily translate those searches into purchases, the survey found 30 percent had a positive or very positive reaction to retargeted ads, while only 11 percent had a negative reaction.
