According to a Pew Research Center Survey, only 67 percent of U.S. households with children include two married parents, down from 92 percent in 1960.     As the economic recovery begins to gain steam, more Americans are feeling confident about their purchasing power. They’re so confident, in fact, that interest in buying luxury products and services is on the rise among affluent customers at all household income levels and even among the not-so-affluent consumer. The Shullman Luxury and Affluence Monthly Pulse conducted by the Shullman Research Center says about one-third (37 percent) of U.S. adults with household incomes of $75,000 or more plan to buy a luxury product or service within the next 12 months. According to a survey conducted by supply chain cooperative SpenDifference, 90 percent of chain restaurants anticipate raising their prices this year by an average of 1. 6 percent, and one-third of respondents expect to increase prices by 2 percent or more.         With the recent delay in the employer mandate for health care reform on the minds of small business owners, another study shows that the majority of business owners still aren’t sure how to prepare for the new regulations. In its SB Authority Market Sentiment Survey, Newtek Business Services The Small Business Authority® found that 52 percent of business owners do not know how to prepare for the upcoming healthcare reform changes. Of the rest, 24 percent plan to reduce benefits to employees, 13 percent plan to rebid their policy, and 11 percent plan to reduce business expenses overall. Read more…

The latest quarterly forecast from the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) indicates that business travel spending should see continued growth throughout 2013—especially in domestic travel. Business travel spending for 2013 is expected to reach $273.3 billion–an upgrade from last quarter’s forecast of $268.3 billion–an upgrade from last quarter’s forecast of $268.5 billion for the year. But according to the latest Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index, Americans are more optimistic about the economy than they have been since the recession began.               Are you putting your own health—and your business’s health—at risk? A recent study by Cigna, My Business, My Health, found that one-fourth of America’s 42 million self-employed small business owners don’t have health insurance. The primary reason (cited by 82 percent of those uninsured entrepreneurs) is that it’s too expensive.
