Millennials Are Big Impulse Buyers. How Can You Get Them to Buy From You?
20 March 2014

Millennial consumers are underemployed, living at home with their parents and struggling to pay off crippling student loans, so they have no disposable income to speak of—right? Wrong, according to a study conducted by AOL and reported by eMarketer. While Millennials may not have the spending power of, say, upscale Baby Boomers, they also make way more impulse purchases than the average consumer. Their near-constant use of technology plays a big role in influencing Millennial shoppers to buy spontaneously, the study found. Read more…

          Is Showrooming Dead?
          20 February 2014

Remember “showrooming”—the trend that had brick-and-mortar retailers quaking in their boots? Showrooming occurs when customers visit a store to look at merchandise, then use their smartphones to search for a better price on the same item elsewhere (usually online) and leave without buying anything. We heard a lot about showrooming in the months leading up to the 2013 holiday retail season, but not so much since then. That’s because while showrooming isn’t dead, apparently it’s much less of a threat than real-world retailers thought. Read more…

What do customers want from your ecommerce site, and how can online retailers get shoppers to buy more and more often? The Walker Sands 2014 Future of Retail study has some helpful answers. How can you get more customers to purchase from your website? Maybe by offering them fewer images to peruse. New research from Wharton shows that, when it comes to making the sale online, less is more. A study by marketing professors Barbara E. 24 January 2014

There’s lots of buzz about mobile shopping, and for good reason. Although the vast majority of Internet users still gravitate to desktops when researching and making online purchases, more than half have either researched or purchased on a mobile device (tablet or smartphone) at some point. That said, mobile shopping still has a long way to go to become mainstream.A survey of U.S. Internet users by ChoiceStream, reported by eMarketer, says 87.3 percent prefer to use their computer for online shopping; only 7.
