Why Online Retailers Need To “Think Green”

Are you targeting “green” consumers in your marketing? You should be. More than 50 percent of U.S. online adults identify themselves as “green” consumers, according to a Forrester report that surveyed over 4,500 Internet users. The study found these consumers—a whopping 90 million Americans—are either “interested” or “very interested” in purchasing environmentally friendly products or buying from companies that are involved in environmental initiatives.         Online sales grew by leaps and bounds this holiday season. Thanksgiving Day: Traditionally, Thanksgiving Day (November 28 this year) has been a lighter day for online holiday spending, but this year online sales grew 21 percent over Thanksgiving Day last year, reaching $766 million. Controversy over stores opening on Thanksgiving this year may have raised awareness and driven many consumers to avoid the crowds (but take advantage of the deals) by shopping from home on Thanksgiving Day.
