Although small business owners are feeling increasingly optimistic about their businesses’ prospects, the latest Capital One’s Spark Business Barometer reports, more small business owners are feeling pessimistic about the overall state of the economy. To succeed in what they perceive as an increasingly challenging economy, they’re turning to mobile technology to increase sales and work more efficiently.             You know shoppers are using smartphones and tablets to shop for products—but did you know just how pervasive the behavior is becoming? The 2013 Social and Mobile Commerce Consumer Report has some insights into how mobile devices are changing the way your customers shop. The study reports that more than half (55 percent) of all retail-related time spent online begins on either a smartphone or a tablet, with just 45 percent of retail Internet time originating from a desktop or laptop computer.                 What did busy moms do before smartphones? Bet they can’t remember their lives before the handy gadgets came into use. According to an August study from BabyCenter, over the past year the number of U.S. mothers using smartphones increased nearly 34 percent. Plus a whopping 46 percent of these mothers admitted being addicted to their smartphones, and seven out of 10 mothers who owned a smartphone, tablet and PC said if they had to choose one of the three to keep, they would hold onto their smartphones and ditch the others.
