Is your small business keeping pace with your peers in how you’re using mobile technology to grow? Although small business owners are feeling increasingly optimistic about their businesses’ prospects, the latest Capital One’s Spark Business Barometer reports, more small business owners are feeling pessimistic about the overall state of the economy. To succeed in what they perceive as an increasingly challenging economy, they’re turning to mobile technology to increase sales and work more efficiently. Some 40 percent of small businesses nationwide report their sales increased in the past six months—an increase of 8 percent since the prior survey. Read more…

      Are Your Customers Using Mobile to Go Online? Survey Says Yes

      Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) of cell phone owners use their phones to go online, the Pew Research Center’s  & American Life Project reports. Since 91 percent of Americans own cell phones, that means more than half (57 percent) of Americans go online using a mobile phone. In addition, 56 percent of U.S. adults own a smartphone; among this group, a whopping 93 percent use their phones to go online. Read more…

        Not surprisingly, there was a 142 percent increase in mobile advertising budgets between 2011 and 2013 among brand marketers surveyed by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). The survey also reports that nearly three-quarters (74 percent) expect their companies’ mobile advertising budgets to increase even more in the next two years.           How Will Mobile Affect Your Holiday Sales?

          How will mobile devices affect your ecommerce site or retail store’s holiday sales this year? The percentage of consumers planning to do most of their Black Friday shopping online is up to 30 percent this year, compared with 25 percent last year, according to an Accenture’s 2013 Holiday Shopping Survey, and mobile will play an important role. Some 19 percent of consumers will use their tablets for shopping (either research or purchasing) this holiday season, up from 15 percent in 2012, and 18 percent will use their smartphones, up from 14 percent. More than half (55 percent) of shoppers say they are likely to shop on Black Friday this year, an increase from 53 percent in 2012 and 44 percent in 2011. Read more…

                Consumers blur the lines when it comes to their mobile devices, using tablets and smartphones for research and information both business and personal. An IDG Global Solutions (IGS) survey found 37 percent of respondents use their personal tablet for business and 41 percent use their personal smartphones for business. The survey, which included participants in 43 countries, predicts by June 2014, more than 57 percent of consumers will rely on smartphones during business hours to read tech news; 47 percent will use them to research tech products and services; 45 percent will use them to read tech newsletters; 40 percent will use them to compare products and services; and 40 percent will use them to visit vendor sites for product information.
