Happy New Year from Web.com!

Well, you made it through 2012 — that’s a good thing!  And now there is another year ahead to grow your business and prosper.  Happy New Year!

Today I visited a small health food store in my neighborhood and was reminded of how important small businesses are.  I needed some high quality flax seed oil in capsules (I don’t know about you, but the taste of flax seed oil is not high on my list . . .  so capsules are imperative).  I  figured that this store was probably not open on New Year’s, but I called them up anyway, and someone actually answered.   He said the store was not open, but asked me what I needed.  I told him.  He said — well, I am here doing year-end stuff and am happy to unlock the door for you so you can get what you need.  So he did.

And I thought . . . I bet a lot of small businesses are working today, there is so much to do at the end of the year.  The owner of the store was there with his wife, and they were cleaning and working in the back on their computers.   He told me there was no hurry, so I picked up a few things — noticing that the price was higher on some products, but not minding the extra cost.   Small businesses often can’t compete with Walmart, or large chains, on price — but the big stores are not going to open their doors for you on a holiday, either . . .  and they often don’t carry specialty products.

After I finished shopping and paid, the owner said, “Thank you for coming in — we appreciate you.   Let us know if there are any products that we don’t offer that you’d like us to carry.”    He said it so genuinely that I really felt it.  I told him thanks for opening the store for me on the holiday, and really felt the spirit of small businesses caring about their customers.  It was so nice.
