Sometimes consumers just don’t want to be good and eat healthy. Sometimes they want food that’s just plain decadent. Although healthy food items show up prominently on many restaurant menus, most consumers say that even if they normally eat healthy at home, they want to splurge when visiting a restaurant. According to a market research report from The NPD Group, only 24 percent of U.S. consumers say they eat healthy when dining out. Consumers want what they want, with 23 percent saying they want to indulge when eating out and 19 percent saying they don’t pay attention to the healthfulness of what they order. For best results, remember to promote your calorie-challenged food items along with your healthier choices.
