Small Business Tip of the Day: Glued to the Phone

What did people ever do before smartphones? Rarely do you see anyone just waiting in line without taking a moment to check their phones. According to the latest findings from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, smartphone owners are doing way more than just talking on their phones. Even with all the apps and social media capabilities of smartphones, the most popular activity is still text messaging: 81 percent of people surveyed send or receive text messages, up from 65 percent in 2009. The biggest growth, however, is in the number of users who access the Web using their phones: 60 percent now, up from only 29 percent in 2009. Other popular activities include checking email (52 percent); downloading apps (50 percent); looking up directions (49 percent) and listening to music (48 percent).
