No one likes a business that jumps on a bandwagon just because it’s popular–and that goes double for being environmentally conscious. Many consumers probably don’t even believe your “green” claims, according to a recent Green Gauge survey from GfK. The percentage of consumers who aren’t sure if they can believe a company’s environmental claims doubled to 22 percent between 2008 and 2013 and the percentage who said they don’t know how well businesses fulfill their responsibility to the environment tripled to 10 percent. As with most things, the key to convincing customers you’re truly green is to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Show your customers your good deeds by sharing your green efforts on social media (with photos), in your store and in all your marketing materials.
