A mere 330,000 smart watches were shipped in 2012, but 5 million unit shipments are predicted for 2014, according to the latest Canalys forecasts. Basically a wearable computer, smart watches can perform basic functions like telling the time, calculating and playing games, but can also run mobile apps and play music and video. Canalys believes smart watches will be the most important new product category in consumer electronics since the iPad. Read more…
