What Does Memorial Day Mean To You?
31 May 2010

As Americans around the world will mark Memorial Day today, I thought it would be interesting to look at this holiday through the eyes of a young American girl. Regardless of one’s position on combat and war, it’s refreshing to watch the reflections on a holiday that, like many others, has been co-opted by commercialization. No matter what your nationality, you quite possibly feel the same way about your armed forces. Read more…

Making The Connection With Women In Business
28 May 2010

Ever since this blog made its debut almost a year and a half ago, the one thing Jill, and then I, focused on, was building, and connecting to, our community. We try to do this by giving you a range of topics to read about, but all focused on and for women entrepreneurs. Because if we give you content that’s relevant to your life as a woman entrepreneur, we’re making a connection with you, no matter how ephemeral it might initially seem. Read more…

Women in Business: Do The Hustle
12 April 2010

You might have headed outdoors to enjoy the weather, play with your pets, or meet up with your gal pals for a ladies-only brunch. At which you enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with chatting to other women you genuinely enjoy, respect and learn from. That’s what we hope you’ll experience today, as we launch the #wgbiz chat series – a monthly (second Monday of every month) Twitter-based conversation by, for and of women in business. Read more…

3 Questions to Ask - and Answer - When Launching a Twitter Chat
6 April 2010

As founder of the #measurePR Twitter chat, I was invited to, and participated in, a recent #chatmixer on Twitter (party image, David Domingo, Creative Commons). The idea was to bring together folks who routinely participate in specific chats, in an online/Twitter “mixer,” in an effort to widen their Twitter circles (would that be Twircles?) – hence the choice of #chatmixer as a hashtag. Truth be told, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, though Justin Goldsborough, Heather Whaling and Valerie Simon were meticulous in their planning. Read more…

Announcing #wgbiz Chats: Conversations By, For and Of Women in Business

Apparently some of our menfolk still don’t get this, but if there’s one thing we know -and love – about ourselves, it’s that we women like to talk. We do a lot of that here, over at Women Grow Business, which is what makes it fun, don’t you think? Apart from useful, of course (and I hope you think we’re useful!). Well, now we’re taking that to another level. Read more…

Someone Pinch Me: $10K For a Business Plan From StartRight!

Before I moved to the DC area, I lived and worked out of the San Francisco Bay Area. ┬áIn those days, I was a sucker for Publisher’s Clearing House. And of course, you didn’t, but once you mailed the first one in, you got another form, so you went through the whole thing again. Read more…

Small Business and Social Media: The Small Business Success Index (SBSI)
22 February 2010

I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention to the quite-interesting findings of the Small Business Success Index (I mean, who could pay attention to *real* news when Kevin Smith got booted off Southwest Airlines and kicked up a stink about it). Anyhoo… there’s a lot of cool stuff in it but what’s very interesting is that it finds (and by it I mean the research & report sponsored by Network Solutions – this blog’s home and host – and the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business) that the adoption of social media by small business has doubled since last year. Is Presidents' Day Another Glass Ceiling?
15 February 2010

I moved to the U.S. from India almost a decade ago. And it’s taken me almost a decade to get used to the shocking lack of holidays Americans put up with (Ten? Seriously, people – 10 federal holidays?!). There can’t be much worse than coming out of the holiday season with no breaks to look forward to. Read more…
