For B2C small businesses, Pinterest is an invaluable marketing tool. Add the holidays to the equation, and you can’t NOT use Pinterest. I rounded up my top tips for you to create the Ultimate Pinterest Holiday Marketing Guide. Happy selling!

Step 1: Study Pinterest analytics

Before you decide exactly what you’re going to promote on Pinterest, take a look at two key metrics. Demographics will tell you who your audience is and where they’re located. Interests will tell you which Pins and boards people are engaging with and what their common interests are.

Use this information to really customize the type of content you share during the holidays to ensure you only Pin and promote the images and products people already love.

Step 2: Optimize your account

Make sure you include keywords in your “about,” Pins and board descriptions so you can be found in a search. Next, add the Pinterest Follow Button to your website and Pin It Buttons to product images.

Step 3: Create eye-catching and engaging pins

According to Pinterest, pins that generate the most engagement are helpful, beautiful, and actionable. Follow these tips to hit the trifecta:

  • Share only high-resolution, professional quality photos
  • Photograph your products in context (pillows on a couch) and in close-ups (so people can see the details and craftsmanship)
  • Stick to vertical images with an image aspect ratio between 2:3 and 1:3.5 and a width of 600px
  • Include a max of four images in one pin
  • Write detailed, inspiring descriptions for each pin
  • Include a link to a review or the product page
  • Use Rich Pins so you can add details

Step 4: Rethink your boards

Now that you know what your audience loves, create boards based on your customers’ interests. And don’t forget to create special holiday-themed boards, like Top Sellers, New Products, and Gift Guides.

You’ll also want to move around your boards. Because people visiting your page see four featured boards at the top, make sure those are your four most relevant boards.

Step 5: Use buyable pins

During the 2015 holiday shopping season, Pinterest noticed some interesting trends around the effectiveness of buyable pins. In short, they can greatly increase sales. Here’s why:

  • They alert users of price drops.
  • They streamline the purchase process.
  • Pinterest shoppers spend a lot when purchasing via buyable pins.

Step 6: Use promoted pins

Just like promoted posts on Facebook and sponsored posts on Instagram, promoted pins show up in feeds on Pinterest. And they are proven to increase conversions, engagement, and brand awareness.
