Uncle Sam gives a Thumb's Up

The federal government delivered 23 percent of all federal contracting dollars to small businesses in fiscal year 2012. To make sure the federal agencies are allocating prime contracting and subcontracting opportunities to small businesses, each agency sets goals for small business procurement. For example, the Fiscal Year 2012/2013 goal for the Department of Defense is that 22.5 percent of prime contracting will go to small businesses, while 36.7 percent of subcontracting will go to small businesses. If your business qualifies as a woman-owned business or is located in a HUBZone, there is contracting set aside specifically for your business. Checking out the SBA’s website to see which agencies have the biggest goals for small business could help you target your marketing efforts to those agencies that are most eager to work with companies your size.
