On Saturday, December 1st, 2012, two Women Grow Business community members will be speaking at our local TEDxWomen event. Already the buzz around the speakers and attendance online comes across like a who’s who of Washington area brilliance. We’ll be live-tweeting the event on Saturday, but there’s nothing like being there.
Which we’ll come back to in a minute – you’ll want to read what comes next whether you’re interested in buying a ticket to the main part of TEDxWomen OR the VIP reception afterwards.
First let’s backtrack really quickly and explain what this event actually IS.
I’ll let them tell it. (Less chance for misunderstandings if you quote directly from the source, yes?)
A TEDxWomen event is a TEDx event featuring the webcast of TEDxWomen — a TEDx event hosted by Pat Mitchell and the Paley Center for Media. Licenses are currently available to host a TEDx event in collaboration with TEDxWomen. Please be sure to read the rules below carefully before applying.
TEDxWomen — hosted by Pat Mitchell and the Paley Center for Media – takes place on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
The theme this year is “the space between”, and by attending a TEDxWomen event in your local area, you will get to see the main event live streamed, as well as the speakers brought to you by your event organizers.
I’m going to TEDxWomen Adams Morgan, partly in support of our outgoing editor Shonali Burke, and Women Grow Business community member and event partner Nicollette Pizzitola. The speakers they have lined up outside of those two also look fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what compelled them to include two men to the heavily female roster.
Nothing wrong with that, to editorialize a bit, but you’d imagine that they’d be under pressure to keep a TEDxWomen event restricted to women speakers only.
How to Attend TEDxWomen Adams Morgan (and Win a VIP ticket)
Well, the most direct route would be to buy a ticket before they’re all gone. You can also get more than one (bring a friend!), sponsor the talk, or get a ticket to the VIP reception from that page as well. There are more details about all of this on the TEDxWomen Twitter and Facebook pages. Or you can subscribe to updates on the TEDxAdamsMorgan website.
One of our community members, who has decided to remain anonymous, has purchased a separate VIP reception ticket, and want to give it away to one of the commenters on the blog, to be selected at random on Friday evening sometime after close of business, Eastern time. Once the winner is selected, their comment will get a response, and will then be announced via the #wgbiz hashtag on Twitter. Just tell us what you’re most excited about for Saturday’s TEDxWomen event in Adams Morgan and you’ll be entered in the drawing.
See you there!
