Women in Business Chat on Speaking Opportunities featuring Alessandra Lariu & Amy Vernon

twitterIt’s that time again! Every second Monday of the month, the Women Grow Business community gathers on Twitter to discuss matters of importance to women in business.

One of the areas we’re constantly getting feedback about is how more women can get speaking engagements at business and technology conferences.

Public speaking, in addition to being beneficial in and of themselves, can also lead to wider exposure to a target market, as well as to other opportunities. In our discussion coming up on Monday, April 8th, at noon Eastern, we’re going to be talking about to a returning guest Amy Vernon, about how she’s been able to get more speaking opportunities, and to Alessandra Lariu about how we can support the people we want to see up on stage.

Yes! Amy Vernon is Back!

amy-vernonAmy Vernon has graced our chat with her presence before, this past July in our chat about Creating and Maintaining Genuine Connections in Social Media. A well-known digital strategist and the General Manager of Social Marketing for Internet Media Labs, Amy is known not just for the ability to spot and nurture communities that are not just large, but responsive.

Her expertise in leading communities has led to an abundance of speaking engagements – and lately not just the acceptance of submissions, but invitations to speak. Amy’s going to speak with us about how she went from fighting to get on panels to being pursued, and give us some tips on how to get from here to there.

You can read more about her background in journalism dating back to the 90s in our last write-up about Amy. You can also read her blog chronicling her views on social media news for more.

More About Alessandra Lariu

Alessandra-Lariu-Lx225Alessandra Lariu is a first-time guest expert with us, and we’re privileged to have her. She is the CEO of Shout, “a radical new way for women in digital advertising to collaborate and get paid”, and the co-founder of SheSays, an award-winning global creative network for women. SheSays has come up with an easy to use, free tool that helps more women who want to speak at conferences gain visibility. We’ll be asking her to help us understand how it works.

Named as one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business, one of the “World’s Most Influential Female Creative Directors” by AdWomen, and a member of the Wharton’s Future of Advertising Global Advisory Board, Alessandra is among the most accomplished guest experts we’d had – and with our history of amazing women leaders, that’s saying something.

Before starting her own company, she was SVP Group Creative Director at McCann, where she has worked with clients like MasterCard, General Mills, Kohls, Nikon and Verizon. Before that, she worked for Agency Republic, a digital boutique shop four times best interactive agency in the UK. Her 15 year-old career in advertising has lead to 18 prestigious industry accolades including Cannes, D&AD and OneShow. She also spoke at over 15 conferences in the past five years.

You can read more of her background on her LinkedIn page, or on the team page at Shout.

Or you could come ask her questions yourself at our Twitter chat with her this coming Monday, April 8, 2013 at Noon Eastern. We’d really like to have you there, whether you’re a regular attendee or a brand new participant.

So how does that happen? I’m so glad you asked.
