Public speaking can help you gain your audience’s trust and boost your profile as an expert in your industry. Start by figuring out what markets you want to reach (there may be more than one). Then research what type of events, organizations or venues would draw your target markets. Think local first: Where does your market go in your local community? Next, develop a range of topics that will interest your audience and also relate to your products, services and expertise. Then pitch your speaking services to event planners, organizations and community leaders. The speaker/planner relationship is a win-win—they need speakers and you need an audience. Just make sure your speech is informative and well-delivered, that you have business cards and marketing materials to give interested listeners, and that you collect names and email addresses from the audience to follow up.
